Whole - Grain Breakfast Porridge

Whole - Grain Breakfast Porridge

Even if today's trend in the health business is more and more converting to skip breakfast or postpone it to a later time in order not to burden the morning's digestive rhythm with a heavy morning meal, we are still passionate about breakfast.

This is probably also because we cannot send our children to school by midday :).

Besides, I think it is really important how you start your day, as it probably will continue as you started.

A healthy eating habit in the morning helps to keep a good nourishing balance for our body during the day.

For a delicious breakfast, however, we also don't need much to eat, preferably something easy and especially some precious time together in family before everyone leaves the house.

Today's article is the third blog post in the series of "healthy breakfast".
Here and here you can find some of our other breakfast ideas.

As I already mentioned, I do not belong to the people who prefer to sleep longer in the morning and then run out of the door in a hurry.
I like to take the time to have a quiet start into the day.
The rest of the family mostly benefits from it, who is then able to cuddle into their pillows, while I already complete my morning exercise.

No, don't worry, I didn't mean I jump right out of bed to start my morning workout (this comes a little later though), I was talking about my sporty exercise while using the manual grain crusher - a wonderful piece to gather strength, especially if you prepare the same breakfast for more than one person :).

If you are still looking for the perfect morning workout to strengthen your arm muscles, you should try this out.
In the recipe video you can see, how the table wobbles while I'm flocking the grain :)

At the moment there are summer holidays and we do not have to get up too early.
This gives me a little more time to walk through the garden before breakfast and gather fresh berries.
Such a colourful accent refreshes and invigorates our eyes and raises the appetite.
Above all, changing the fruits from time to time avoids the boredom of eating the same each morning.

The best way to prepare the porridge is to weigh the ingredients, because too much liquid can quickly make it too watery.

Sometimes you have to test a little, since every grain is slightly different in the absorbency of the liquid.
Therefore, our data should only serve as a guideline.

After a while you surely will develop a feeling for the grains and do not have to get out the scale every time.

Vary the grains as desired, because every type gives you a different supply of healthy ingredients.

If you are in a hurry in the morning and don't have time to eat, simply pack the porridge in a glass and take it with you.

We hope you like our recipe.

We wish you a relaxed summer time and see you soon!

Love and sunshine!

Jana and family

  • Category: Breakfast
  • Type: Vegan
  • Preparation time: 0:10:00
  • Servings: 1-2

Ingredients:

  • 100g naked oats or other grain
  • 160ml non-dairy milk (we like to use tiger nut milk) or water
  • 50g seeds and / or nuts (sunflower seeds, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds)
  • 1 apple
  • 1 pinch of cinnamon
  • fruits of your choice (pineapples, red currants, strawberries ...)

Instructions:

  1. Fill the grain in the grain crusher to prepare the flakes.
  2. Stir in the non-dairy milk or water with a fork.
  3. Grate the apple and stir well.
  4. Garnish with fruits and cinnamon.

Notes:

We always prepare the naked oat flakes shortly before eating, since they oxidise very quickly.
You can also prepare other grain in the evening and soak the flakes already in the non-dairy milk or water and store it in the fridge until the next morning.

If you use nuts, soak them in water the evening before, then rinse them in the morning and add them to your porridge.
