It is late afternoon, I'm sitting on the balcony of our beautiful holiday home and enjoy the gentle wind and the view of the bright blue sea.
This is the time of the day when the summer temperatures here in Sardinia are starting to be tolerable for us, who are accustomed to the German weather.
Even in the early morning hours, the sun bursts from the sky with such an intensity that one hardly wants to move.
In the course of the day, the heat is increasing more and more, that it is almost unbearable.
At one of our tours to a dripstone cave, the guide said, it only rains here about three times a year and then the stalactites begin to drip like a shower.
Oh how nice, I really felt the desire of the refreshing water almost every time I had to move my body in this heat.
The sea in the north-east of the island is incredibly beautiful with its different shades of blue, silver blue and turquoise.
It offers long white sandy beaches, which are unfortunately overcrowded at this time of the year.
Too bad that we are dependent on the school summer holidays, because I believe the island is a great vacation place.
So personally I would say, I'd rather recommend coming here in fall or early spring when it's not so hot and crowded with too many tourists like in the summer month.
Well, but we tried to adapt to the rhythm of the islanders and particularly enjoyed the pleasant nights.
We had a big old lemon tree with beautiful bright yellow lemons right in front of our balcony.
The scent was really too enticing.
To my delight our nice landlady said, we could pick the delicious fruits.
So, every morning we started off with fresh lemon water.
Since we spent our holidays without Internet, I had to finish this article at home.
Here we would like to give you a little insight, what else we have done with all the lemons which we brought along.
The little sour fruits really have what it takes for a good health.
They are known to be full of vitamin C, but also contain a lot of potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and pectin.
They help our digestive organs with their work and bring the digestive fluid back to a proper flow.
Warm 🍋 - water
A glass of lemon water before breakfast stimulates the work of the liver.
It cleanses the body and helps combat flatulence.
The drink strengthens your immune system, your body milieu becomes more alkaline and your skin is freed from within from impurities.
Summer salad with avocado 🍋 - dressing
2 tbsp of lemon juice
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar and a few spices such as sea salt, garlic powder and pepper to taste
Blend all the ingredients for the dressing in your blender and mix it in the salad.
🍋 - throat solution
If your throat starts to hurt and you feel an ominous tickle, simply take freshly pressed lemon juice and rinse your mouth with it.
This disinfects, is antibacterial and good for your gums as well, because lemon juice helps against gingival bleeding.
🍋 - Ice cream
3 frozen bananas
Juice of a lemon
2 tbsp of cashew butter
Put all the ingredients into your high-speed blender and mix everything well.
Enjoy your refreshing summer ice cream!
🍋 - Cake
This delicious raw lemon cake is an absolute highlight at every summer party.
🍋 - Incense mixture
I like the subtle smell of a natural herb mixture.
Usually, I react with a heavy headache to strong smells like perfume or unnatural scents, but I do enjoy the smell of unprocessed treasures from nature.
From time to time, we light our small smoking oven, which we cover with dried herbs and lemon or orange peel.
This brings a fresh scent into the house, without any chemical unnatural additives.
Cut some lemon peel, dry it and use it as an incense or potpourri.
🍋 - shell powder
Grind small dried lemon peel into a powder.
The lemon powder is ideal for decoration purposes, for example on cakes ...
... or simply to top your food with a special aroma.
🍋 - Salt
If you want to bring your friends a little present from your kitchen, try a delicious lemon salt.
The color of the lemon enchants the salt into a gorgeous yellow color.
Using small amounts of a good type of salt supports your mineral household and activates your self-healing powers.
Grind dried lemon peel in the blender into powder and mix with a good sea salt in a small glass in the ratio 1: 2 (1 tbsp lemon peel powder: 2 tbsp sea salt).
We hope you liked the one or other of our suggestion on how we use lemons.
